미분방정식

미분방정식이란 제복을 입은 하인과 비슷하다. 그들에게 명령을 내릴 수 있다는 것은 영예로운 일이지만, 그들은 언제나 "예"라고 말하며, 그들의 주인이 그들에게 의뢰한 아이디어를 지지하고 확대하는 데 충성을 다하는 것이다.

Differential equations are like servants in livery: it is honourable to be able to command them, but they are "yes" men, loyally giving support and amplification to the ideas entrusted to them by their master.

command differential eqs : what does this mean?
요즘 독해력이 떨어지는 건지 아니면, 미방아닌 수학에대한 근본적인 시각차가 있는건지,
그렇지 않으면 단순히 analytic이건 numerical이건 `풀이'를 누군가(your student or mathematica)에게 명한다는 겁니까?

원래 맥락에서는 미방이란 것은 충실하게 답을 내놓는 도구에 불과하다는 것으로, 모델 자체가 잘못되면 당연히 물리적 실체와 전혀 다른 결과를 보여줄 수 있으므로 너무 믿으면 안된다는 뜻입니다.
